Super Eagles players reportedly missed a scheduled training session yesterday after a disagreement with officials of the National Football Federation over bonus money.
BBC Sports reports that the players believe they are each $15,000 (£8,800) short of what they were expecting for reaching the last 16 in Brazil.
The players refused to train in Campinas on Thursday and NFF officials later confirmed the session had been cancelled. Continue…
BBC Sport has learned the problem lies in the interpretation of the bonus structure, with the players believing they will only receive $10,000 for their win 1-0 over Bosnia-Hercegovina and $5,000 for the 0-0 draw with Iran.
The players’ understanding was they would receive a $30,000 payment for qualifying from the group.
However, it is believed the Nigerian Football Federation’s offer to the players includes the agreed win and draw bonuses plus 30% of the prize money due from Fifa for reaching the knockout stage.
This is understood to rise to 40% of the prize money from Fifa if Nigeria were to win their round of 16 match, 50% for a quarter-final victory, 60% for a win in the semi-final stage and 70% for lifting the trophy.
While all parties work to find a resolution to the misunderstanding, coach Stephen Keshi has insisted it will not affect the team’s performance.
And it has been confirmed to the BBC that the players will travel to Brasilia on Friday as scheduled and will train in the evening and over the weekend.
Since Michael Jackson’s 2009 death, his estate has raked in more than $600 million, according to The Huffington Post. Although the King of Pop has been dead for five years, Michael Jackson is still bringing in a major fortune with posthumous projects approved by his estate.
The estate has been very busy this year keeping Jackson’s past work and image as current as possible for profit. Last month, Pulse Evolution debuted a hologram in the entertainer’s image, and it performed Jackson’s song “Slave to the Rhythm” at the Billboard Music Awards. A posthumous album released on May 13th by Sony, entitled Xscape, debuted at number two on the Billboard charts and number one in the U.K. Lastly, there is a Cirque du Soleil show playing in Las Vegas that pays tribute to Jackson. Tickets sell for about $75 to about $200.
Out of Jackson’s fortune, his three children— Prince, 17, Paris, 16, and Blanket, 12— receive $8 million annually, according to The New York Post. The inheritance pays for expenses such as Paris’ six-figure therapeutic boarding school in Utah, Prince’s $30,000 private school, and $200-an-hour karate lessons for Blanket.
As stated in Jackson’s will, his children will split half of his estate’s fortune once they turn 33. They will inherit the rest when they turn 40.
The estimated value of the estate is currently over $1 billion.
The mock performances and albums show no signs of slowing down, at least not for a few years. In 2010, when Jackson’s estate signed a new record deal with Sony that is contracted to last until 2017, record label heads assured the public that the deal would not stop at just creating albums. “It’s not just a record deal,” said Rob Stringer, chairman of the Columbia/Epic Label Group, a Sony division. “There are also audio rights for theater, movies, [and] computer games.”
While revealing the preparation for Kefee’s burial, front-line gospel artiste and Glo ambassador, Sammie Okposo, had this to say about the late singer’s last moment.
“Kefee was not pregnant, though she had a medical history that was being properly managed in America. Her remains has not arrived the country yet. On that fateful day she died, she complained that she did not like the way she was feeling and they had to call for emergency.
After examining her, they said that nothing was wrong with her. But she insisted that she was not feeling fine.
Coupled with stress, she slumped. It has been agreed by the family members and the husband that she would be buried in her home town, Sapele and we are making all the necessary paper preparations to fly her down to Nigeria.
“We have been asked by the husband to organize a kind of memorial service for her tagged,”An evening with Kefee”, which we are planning to do immediately he arrives.
“We are therefore planning something big for her which will include a documentary about her and probably, a stage play. Also, there are plans for annual lecture in her memory. We are setting up a committee to that effect,” he said.
A Texas woman who seriously injured her son and then tried to repair the injury with superglue pleaded guilty and was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison.
*Jennifer Vargas, 34 tore her son’s genitals
Jennifer Vargas, 34, was arrested last fall by the FBI and charged with assault after she admitted to yanking her 6-year-old son’s genitals out of anger.
The sudden pull tore a 1.6-inch laceration in the boy’s scrotum. Vargas then cleaned the wound with alcohol before trying to seal the gaping hole with superglue, according to KENS.
“She applied superglue to the [boy’s] scrotum until the bleeding stopped, stuffed his underwear with paper towels, and then told him to go to bed,” a criminal complaint affidavit said. “Vargas did not seek any type of medical treatment for the child.”
The boy only received medical attention after his father — an enlisted man at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, where the family lived — came home to find his son crying. He underwent surgery at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Vargas expressed remorse for her actions when she went before a judge last week.
“I would like to say that I regret my actions, that I do love my children with all my heart,” Vargas said, calling her kids the “most important thing to me,” according to the San Antonio Express-News.
WOAI reports that after 11 years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce. Prosecutors told the station that the boy has recovered and is doing well.
“He’s recovered,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Wannarka said. “He’s living with his father and doing very well in school.”
